Boyne
Island & Tannum Sands originally developed as two separate communities
with
Boyne Island being accessible only at low tide & Tannum Sands being
a 20km roundabout drive.
In the
early eighties a bridge was constructed joining the two communities,
however each retained its separate name even though they share the
same Post Office.
Locals
quite often refer to the area or facilities in the area as "BITS", eg
"BITS Club" short for Boyne Island Tannum Sands Country Club.
Kangaroos
& Wallabies can still be found in the area & quite often overseas
tourists get their first glimpse of these native animals in their
natural environment. Free tours are arranged on request for guests staying
at the motel.
