Situated just 15 minutes drive from Gladstone; Boyne Island is linked by bridge to its twin town Tannum Sands. Boyne Island is renowned for its beautiful foreshore Parks while Tannum Sands, just 10km off the Bruce Highway by sealed road, offers long stretches of sandy beaches for swimming & holiday recreation. Lifesavers patrol each weekend & all summer holidays, add to the safe and relaxed holiday atmosphere. The water is warm enough to swim all year round. Tannum Sands & Boyne Island are linked by over 15km of pedestrian and cycle paths, which wind alongside the Boyne River, through parks and to the beachfront.

Boyne Island Motel and Villas is located just 50m from the beach. The beach is ideal for walking and has some interesting flotsam and jetsam.

Turtles may be seen feeding in the river on occasions, unfortunately they no longer nest on the island. However the walking/bicycle track is called "The Turtle Way" & the life cycle of the turtle is depicted in relief in the pathway itself. It was from the name of this pathway that Boyne Island Motel & Villas derived its motif.
